The Gorilla Glue variety: characteristics and origins

The Gorilla Glue variety: characteristics and origins

Cannabis varieties are numerous. In recent years, one variety in particular has gained in popularity. It's called Gorilla Glue. Never heard of it? Don't worry, Mama explains everything you need to know about this variety.

The origins of Gorilla Glue

If you've only heard of Gorilla Glue recently, that's normal. It's been a runaway success in recent years, and yet it's a fairly young variety (it's just turned 10).

The first thing you need to know about this variety is that it's a hybrid, the result of crossing 3 different strains (as opposed to the usual 2). The strains in question are Chem's sister, Chocolate Diesel and Sour Dubb.

If you can taste Gorilla Glue today, it's thanks to an accident. In 2014, American grower Joesy Whales was tending his crops when he noticed something. Some of his Chem's sister plants had pollinated the neighboring Sour Dubb plants.

The bad news (which turned out to be pretty good) was that he couldn't sell his plants. Despite this, Joesy Whales decided to save a few seeds from his pollinated plants. Good for him, a year later he was looking to create a new variety. He decided to plant the seeds he had saved. After several trials, and the addition of another strain (Chocolate Diesel), Gorilla Glue was born!

Characteristics of this variety

This hybrid, often considered perfect because it contains 50% sativa and 50% indica, has special physical characteristics. Here's what Gorilla Glue looks like:

  • hard, dense heads;
  • light-coloured leaves with large, bright orange buds (due to the pistils);
  • light green flowers ;
  • medium-sized feet;
  • a lot of resin (which is why it's called "Glue").

It can have a very high THC content (up to 30%). But don't panic: in Mama's store, CBD Gorilla Glue products will not have a THC level higher than 0.3% (as required by law).

The combination of these 3 strains gives Gorilla Glue a distinctive and very pronounced taste. You'll find a strong citrus and fruit flavor, but also a lighter woody note.

Its fragrance, too, is intense. Fresh and pleasant, the scent of Gorilla Glue gives the impression of being in a pine forest. Despite its young age (compared with other varieties), its quality has already been recognized. Gorilla Glue won the title of "Best Hybrid" at the 2014 Cannabis Cup (a recognized competition in the cannabis world).

What can you expect from Gorilla Glue ?

Before Mama explains the effects of Gorilla Glue, you should bear in mind that these are potential effects. Feelings have not been scientifically proven and may vary from person to person.

As I mentioned, Gorilla Glue is 50% indica and 50% sativa. It therefore combines the potential effects of both variants. When you consume Gorilla Glue , you can expect a mixture of euphoric (sativa) and soothing (indica) effects.

Since it contains high levels of CB, the relaxing effects generally appear quickly. Here are just a few of the effects you may experience from Gorilla Glue :

  • good mood ;
  • optimism;
  • motivation ;
  • relaxation.

The reason Gorilla Glue is so popular is that its fast-acting, relaxing effects can help you decompress. Particularly after a hard day's work, or just before going to bed for a good night's sleep. It can also help relieve aches and pains. The sativa side can sometimes be a bit strong, so if you notice any side effects, stop taking it immediately.
